Sometimes you just got to speak your mind or in Rod's case write. Rod Bannister didn't have any serious writing experience, didn't know how he was going to get his book published but he knew inside him that he needed to get the words out about his experiences of his 40 years.

He pursued his passion and Voila " Fitness from the inside out - Forty life lessons from over forty years of living" was born and published.

Rod's from Wanganui and has represented NZ in Squash at u19 and u23 level, worked in senior management roles with various corporate workplaces and currently with Ricoh. He's also competed in bodybuilding shows the past couple of years so he has plenty of experience from life, work and fitness to share and motivate others with.

His book covers various topics which delves into your inner being and aims to help inspire and motivate you into action. Some of the topics include: Are you for real?  Is that a fake tan you're wearing? Save your drama for your mama. Ditch the excuses. Slaying the monster of fear and more!

No matter which page you turn to in this book you'll find something to get you motivated about your life, job or fitness. So if you need something to get you up and going, then Rod's book could be the tonic you need to get inspired again.

We asked Rod more about his book

What does fitness from the inside mean?  The title of the book could lead audience thinking this was an exercise book but alas there was no exercise regimes or diets in the book.

® It means that all the thoughts that we have about anything in our life start from the inside out, not the outside in. We are what we think.

Where is the book available?
The book is currently only sold online and through Barnes and Noble bookstores in the USA. I am planning to market the book more in NZ come Feb an build my marketing online. Maybe through a local lauch and some signings however the online channel is the best way to leverage sales and is global with lower o/heads, better profits than the traditional bookstore.

Do you think turning 40 was the reason you wrote the book? Was it a scary number to be and you felt you needed to achieve something by that age? Could you have done this at 30 or 35?

® I think that I was in the right ‘head space' to do this. It enabled me to pull upon all of my experiences to date and write about something that I am very passionate about; right time - right place I suppose!

Seems the crux of your book is about finding your passion and going for it.  What is your passion now that the book is written?

® I have 2 major passions: Health and Fitness and writing in the self help genre. My goal is to be fulltime in one of these capacities by the end of daylight savings 2010 and to sync this in with my writing. I currently write a column every week for an APN newspaper and I may be on board with a major paper soon. In short - I want to make a positive difference in this world.

Are you more calm with yourself now you've got the book out and expressed yourself?

® I believe I am more focused on what it is that I am put here on earth to do - the book enabled me to be more centered on my talents and gifts.

You've done bodybuilding for 3 years?  Do you think living the lifestyle has contributed to you being more confident with yourself from within.

® In a crux, no. It does make you feel more self assured and confident. It was and is a goal. I see body building as a great vehicle to teach other people to adopt the principles that you adapt in your body building lifestyle to any part of your life to achieve great outcomes: e.g. perseverance, consistency, commitment, goals, discipline, hard work.

What would be your advice to those who are feeling restless, have no motivation or feel they're going nowhere in their jobs, life or fitness endeavours? How would you motivate them to get going again.

® I now understand that the most important factor in this equation is to ‘FIND YOUR PASSION'. Do something that you love and fills you with joy. What themes have been consistent in your life, what presents did you receive when you were young growing up, what have you continued to do throughout your life that has bought you great joy? Find this and pursue it with all of your conviction - there will be little competition when you are working with your passion.

What has been your family and friends' reaction to your thoughts? Did they know you felt that way about how you were living?

® On the whole they have been very supportive. No I do not think they knew that was the way I operated internally.

What would you like your legacy to be?

® To contribute something positive to mankind for the better-ment of the human race.

p.s Rod's also going to get his site www.mondaynevercomes.com ready to be live around March 2010.
