This year Craig will kick off the contest season by
competing in the WFF Open Athletic Class 3, at the ChCh Grand
Prix on 30 April 11. For this
show, Craig said he'll probably come in at 73kgs or so.
"Currently I'm sitting at about 4% bodyfat and am hoping to come in
a 3% for the show."
But he hasn't always been so muscular and ripped. "When I first
started training I weighed in at a hefty 60kgs haha with about
17%bf! Once I started eating properly and got going in the
gym I got up to 80kgs within a year and 6 months after
that I was up to 85kg but at this weight my bf was up there a
little so i pulled back on the diet a little and have sat around
the 80kg mark for a while trying to build up the muscle and loose
the fat." said Craig.
Craig has been training for about 6 years but didn't get
involved in body building until Jan 2010. "I was told that I
didn't have the shoulders and that kind of stuck in my head for a
while but decided to do something about it and worked on them
pretty hard."
Craig said probably because
of his competitive nature 'being told I
wouldn't be any good because of my shoulders' was the start of
his bodybuilding ambitions that pushed him harder to
prove them wrong. "Every time I step into the gym I am thinking of
the show coming up, working on my weaker areas" he adds.

For his first show (the NABBA/WFF last year) Craig admits he did
have nerves. "Haha was i nervous??... hell yeah I was terrified
when I started off. I have to have a bit of a giggle when I
see the video of my 1st show."
"That NABBA/WFF show was great. It flowed very well and time
keeping was excellent. The idea of having compulsories followed by
your routine meant the show was all done in a good time frame and
we were all finished by about 5/6 pm. There were 50 odd competitors
and with these numbers meant there was good space for everyone.
They provided a little bit of fruit back stage."

Craig says he's pretty much on track for the upcoming show
next week. "Its now just a matter of posing and practicing my
routine. All the gym work has been done and have work on some areas
which will show through on the day." Craig is confident that if all goes to plan
this should be the best condition he will be in to date. "I
have been happy with my condition with previous competitions but
have taken this to the next level and will hopefully show on the
day."
Ultimately Craig would love to compete overseas to
take things to the next level outside NZ "those guys get really
shredded!"
Finally Craig would like to say a huge thank you to Tarren McCall
for all her hard work sorting out his nutrition and her
ongoing support. "Also a thank you to everyone else involved in the
day to day stuff and putting up with me haha!" he added.
We look forward to seeing Craig in Christchurch and we'll
be keeping a closer eye on him during the year this
year!
