In this update we catch up with long time Go Figure viewer and sometime Supergirl Penne Clayton (left pic). Since I, or her other trainer, can't be watching Penne's every morsel or every step of cardio she takes, Penne decided she needed a little more accountability to keep her on track.
She decided to download a 'Fitday.com' food and exercise diary. So I thought maybe others could get some feedback from Penne's experience and perhaps get another form of accountability in their training too.
Here's Penne's thoughts on the programme:

I had been using a diet and exercise journal and found it was great to keep me focused on my cardio and diet in particular. However I was fairly lose with my portion sizes and had hit a plateau with my weight loss and was getting a bit 'norty' (Pinot Gris).

I was looking for something a tad more easier and accurate to use than the journal I had got from Avon a couple of years back. I spend a lot of my day on a PC for work, so thought something I could keep updated with just a few keystrokes would suit me best. |
I had used FitDay about 5 years ago when training and had found it was very useful to keep me on track, particularly as it separates and measures carbs, fat, protein and ALCOHOL! This is what they say about it (with some of the sales pitch taken out!):
FitDay.com is a food journal, calorie counter, exercise log, weight loss tracker, and nutrition facts book all rolled into one. It also provides analysis and graphical reporting. And its free! All you do is login daily and enter your foods, activities, and weight (if it has changed). By analysing what you enter, FitDay generates detailed graphical reports on...
- * calories
- * fat, carbohydrates, and protein intakes
- * nutritional analysis
- * exercise and metabolism calorie expenditure
- * weight loss progress
- * personal goals
- * long-term diet & fitness trends
- * how much Pinot Gris you’re drinking!

FitDay takes the guesswork (or in my case, the gung-ho!) out of your daily diet & fitness management. I have purchased the FitDay PC software and I find that even better as I don’t need internet access to update it.

It has a huge range of foods broken down by cooking method, carb, fat and protein content and with a calorific value. Some of them are a bit American (as in stuff we’d not eat) but it has the functionality to add foods of your own (liquorice, oh…. Protein bars etc..!).
It has a lot of exercise types to choose from too – although I wouldn’t rate ‘walking around office’ as a form of exercise!!
It has focussed me which is awesome as I am coming back from injury and have been really NOT motivated!
