14 July: Lucky me, I got the opportunity to trial out the brand spanking new Harbour Fitness in Ellerslie recently. This branch continues Harbour Fitness's vision to deck out their gyms with the best equipment for their members.  This gym at Main Highway in Ellerslie (in the old squash court building) has 3 exercise floors.  One for cardio with the latest treadmills and spin bikes.  The second floor is the main gym which has a great mix of free and machine weights comprising the best "Star Trac" and "Hoist" machines. The third floor is their aerobics and spin studio.

	25 March: Harbour Fitness City's New Cardio Expansion! Check out the huge new cardio theatre at Harbour Fitness City.  There's plenty of treadmills, bikes and rowers to satisfy all your cardio needs.  Plus there's also the new spin studio for those who like a more intense workout with an instructor.

Harbour Fitness Birkenhead Harbour Fitness are continually outdoing themselves with every new gym they are opening. This time, their Birkenhead branch at 61 Mokoia rd next to Highbury shopping centre, incorporates all the latest free weights and exercise machines while still giving attention to the finer details.
Firstly, the parking was super easy right in front. Then the entrance with its above red soft light lit the way down the stairs to the spacious Harbour Fitness gym.  Apart from good equipment in a gym, we all know the next thing we look for is a great changing/shower facilities eh girls.  And this one has paid attention to we need. Firstly its clean and fresh, with each shower cubicle having a red curtain separating the shower. There's soft spotlights above the mirrors that won't show all or wrinkles (he he) and also a handy hairdryer right next to the sink. The gym itself is spacious and contains a mix of heavy duty machines for the serious weight trainer but also plenty of equipment for the recreational gym user.  Harbour Fitness have spared no expense to equip the gym with State of the art machines from Life Fitness and Body Arts to work your body from every angle so everyone will find something that suits their strength and fitness level.

Like at their other Harbour Fitness gyms in Glenfield and City, Birkenhead has plenty of flat screens around their facility to distract you from the rigours of your workout.  You'll also find plenty of cardio equipment and a dedicated Spin room jampacked with new spin bikes ready for you to christen! 4 June 10: Harbour Fitness recently opened their new gym (1 of 5 Mega Gyms planned for Auckland) in downtown Auckland, so I just had to pop down for a nosey and a workout.  I must say the facility and equipment was pretty flash up there on level 2 of 203 Queen Street.  There was plenty of new equipment to work every angle of your body and had good views too.
If you're not into watching the many TVs on their walls, you could always look out on to Queen Street and do some people watching... in between your intense sets ofcourse! While I was there, only 1 floor was in operation but the second floor is not too far away. This will be a dedicated cardio floor and we're told it'll be the biggest in the southern hemisphere.  Overall I had a great workout in the airconditioned atmosphere and enjoyed trialling the equipment. Harbour Fitness Glenfield

With their low cost weekly ($14.95) membership, no joining fee or extra administration costs and focus on developing community spirit within the gym, Harbour Fitness is proving itself the immerging force in Auckland's competitive gym scene. While only opened in April 09, they've since been named the fastest expanding gym in the Southern Hemisphere. But budget does not mean they've scimped on equipment. When you walk in, you notice immediately the cool atmosphere from the air conditioning throughout the gym. Much needed in Auckland's hot and humid weather.  Then you notice the rows of new treadmills, bikes and cross trainers facing a row of tvs mounted on the wall.     Cardio room                             Weights room                  Women's Gym On either side of the cardio room is the warm up room and the weights room which is filled with brand new equipment.  More equipment can be found in a dedicated women's gym. There's also the Spin Studio and aerobic room.

Quite impressive for a new gym but this is only the start of a bigger picture for the mangement team.  Incidentally Harbour Fitness had a team of 14 competing at the NABBA North Harbour 09 comp, including Steve Papps, who won the Overall Athletic Title.  Now that's practicing what they're preaching!   left: Steve Papps

The Mangement's vision incorporates two different models of Gyms to cater for different purposes.  The first model is their  "Harbour Mega Gyms."  This is the model on the corner of Wairau and View Rd.  The second model is their "Harbour Express Gyms."  This is the model that will be built in Birkenhead.
