Hunk of the Moment

Will competed in the Musclemania Worlds in Los Angeles over the weekend (17-18 Nov 07) in the Model America class.

Will's a PT in Auckland and has competed in bodybuilding comps for many years mainly in INBA.

Unfortunately Will didn't place in the Top 5 of his class but he still scores high on our HUNK o metre!!

Jason captured our lens at the recent NABBA North Harbout Champs where he won the novice physique class, and you can see why! more about Jason below:
  1. age: 27 years

2. occupation: builder

3. how long have you been training? being ex army, I had a good base knowledge of training and a good level of fitness but I have been training seriously for bodybuilding a little over 1 1/2 years.

4. how many shows competed in? results 2. Auckland May 2007, 3rd Novice Physique & North Harbour November 2007 1st Novice Physique

5. favourite past time other than bodybuilding? Hunting / Sleeping / Eating (although the last two are large components of BB really)
6. favourite off season food? Burger Fuel!
7. favourite contest food? Chicken
8. which physique do you aspire to look like? Myself only bigger : )  I do have a great appreciation for Arnold and his training philosophies! Also the likes of NZ's own Jamie Cameron, who has been a great mentor over the past 6 months or so.
9. who helps you get through your pre contest phase? My girlfriend Eve (not just because she said to say that), but competing together makes it easier as we are on the same wave length and have an understanding of what each other is going through / My training partner(s) at the gym - they're willing to adapt to the type of training I need to do during different phases of my competition preparation / Jamie Cameron who is a wealth of knowledge / Family

Grant and Martina Aumua

Easily looking like Tarzan (if he had a loin cloth on!), Grant Aumua came swinging into the Sonny Schimdt Classic looking muscular, full and ripped to bits and hardly an ounce of water on him. Grant competed and won the open u90kg, and he would take our award for his awesome condition! But Grant has more than a great body, he also showed he had great will.

8 weeks before the Sonny, lining up on stage looked far away for Grant. He was laid down with severe backache and it wasn't till he went to the doctor that they told him he had the back of an 80 year old. The discs in his back were severely damaged due to years of being an action man, the doctor told him he shouldn't train or compete. But he was determined to continue training for the sport he loves so he used the Sonny as the goal to prove that he can work around his back issues.

The only thing he couldn't really do are heavy squats and anything that could impact on his back such as running. So he trained his legs a little lighter and did the cross trainer so that he didn't jar his back. Dietwise Grant eats clean year round but he did have to be more strict with diet this time giving up crossants and icecreams - usually he has it once a week.

Ofcourse he said he couldn't have done this without the support of his wife Martina (who also looks amazing and we can't believe she just turned 50 - wow!!! that's another story). Together they have a goal of taking out the National Couples title but first they'll compete at the CNI in September.
And we wish them all the best...Tarzan and Jane!!

The road to
BENDIGO by Leanne Grindrod

We had been approached a few years ago at Muscle Mania about a new show in Melbourne that was laid out with the athletes in mind, with awesome prizes and atmosphere. With our disappointment from how Muscle Mania had been ran last year and lack of numbers we took an interest in this new show for 2007.

After checking out the website and emailing Craig Lucas, the organiser, our small team of Alex, Darrin, Jacqui, Shawn, Trevour and myself made plans to go over the 2007 Country Classic in Bendigo. I made a promise that I would focus on my health this year and rest from body building, so not preparing for the Country Classic was a struggle as I really wanted to give it a go. I kept myself busy though with clients and working with the boys as Nutritionist for the show.

Darrin competed in the NZFBB Auckland’s as his warm up for the Bendigo show and came in good condition to take his class and overall’s. Alex competed in the NABBA Counties Manukau show as his warm up and it was a good one to use as this year it started late, as does the Country Classic show. We got to time the food and loading as if we were getting him ready for Aussie, so a good test and Alex also won his class and took Overalls.
You can check out Alex's pumping up and interview Video at NABBA Counties here
