Ross the rock!

Although he didn't win the Overall title at the NZFBB Wellington Champs on 12 April, Ross Grey gets our award for the most amazing conditioned athlete of the show! Ross, one of Phily Nuku's proteges, won the Masters over 40 class with his rock hard body and ultra vascular condition. Just check out the pics!

Charl Viviers

Our new hunk of the moment is 22 year old young gun Charl Viviers from Palmerston North. Charl works as fitness and sales consultant at the Lido fitness centre but at lately he's been working on body to compete in the Elite show in March.

Charl is 1.71m and currently weighing 87kg, but will compete at 90kg or thereabouts. His off season weight always varies depending on how hard he's training and how many hamburgers he's eating!

He's been training 8 years and competed for the first time 2001. He's competed numerous times since with NABBA. I placed 5^th at the World Champs in the Junior Division 2004 and won the overall Nabba Novice Physique title in 2006.

He started preparing for the Elite show on Christmas day thanks to a phone call from Keith Jolly telling him that Dexter Jackson Would be competing. He figured He'd get to meet him backstage. The other reason he's competing is to get a goal to train towards after a rotator cuff tear and shoulder dislocation roughly this time last year.

Charl's goals... are just to keep doing what he's doing now and to see what happens. He probably wont compete much over the next few years and just focus on achieving some balance in his life (There is apparently more to life than bodybuilding?). But he'll be back.

Recently I was in Wellington so thought I'd pop in to see Phily Nuku at Bodyworks Gym to check out what he's up to and what he was training. Phily's a PT and been a bodybuilding stalwart in the Wellington bodybuilding scene for many years. You can check out his profile at Super Man. On the day that I visited, Phily was doing a seriously high energy core workout in which he also managed to rope in one his proteges Bevan McDonald, to train with him. Bevan won the overall Novice Athletic title at the NABBA Nats in 07. But I don't think Bevan knew what he was in for on this day!
