Dedication to James Pascoe
Before we get into the pics from the show, I'd just like to take a moment to dedicate this page to James Pascoe who recently passed away on Friday 6 June. James had been battling cancer for over a year but has kept it quiet.
I'd met James many times over the years through bodybuilding shows but I really didn't know much about him as he didn't boast too much about his achievements - being the humble guy that he was. But I'm told he's competed for many years at local, national and interantional level.
Whereever I saw James, Darrin wouldn't be too far away. And vice versa. This dynamic duo would compete together and I'd always be interested in the pumping up procedure James had for Darrin, and James would be willing to share his knowledge and have a chat. I'm sure James not only mentored Darrin but helped many along the way, and for that thanks James. And sorry I didn't get to boast about your achievements earlier. |

NABBA Counties Pics
And now on with the show... Well having prejudging at 1.30pm was abit different but it wasn't bad. Around 30 athletes ventured to Otara Rec centre for the NABBA Counties show. Like most NABBA shows, it feels very relaxed and happy and all the athletes enjoyed mucking in backstage.
Although the tanning up area was small (like most gym changing rooms!) I think the size was right as it kept all the heat in considering it was a cold venue. Adding to the relaxed nature of the show was the fact that it started in the afternoon and everyone is better prepared - although things always feel hectic backstage don't they?
We saw a couple of veterans of bodybuilding compete in this show. Colleen Sloane competed in her 60th show while Tony Martin in his 101st appearance! we also saw the entry of a new novice lady physique short, Kelly Gribble who was in super muscular condition - a description which also goes for Alex Simays. Alex is using this comp to prepare for his Country Classic contest in Aus in 2 weeks time so goodness knows what he'll look like for that contest!
The title of most improved would go to Sharon Salvi in the Sen Figure class who has made some nice improvements since she competed last year. She's improved so much she won the Overall Figure, so well done to Sharon for sticking with it - especially in the posing department!
Thanks to NABBA, Peter Hardwick and athletes for letting Go Figure take these happy snaps! enjoy.
