The Balance NZFBB National Bodybuiding Champs, the main event of the NZFBB calendar year is on this Sat 10 Oct at the Logan Campbell Centre Greenlane Akl, so we thought it timely to preview who may turn up and what may happen at the comp.  Its all just speculation but its fun to put it out there isn't it so please don't hold us accountable to the letter!

With only a few NZFBB shows contested this year it makes things a little bit easier to presume which athletes could turn up so here goes.  We can't remember all the athletes who've qualified for the classes so we'll just put out a few .names that could make things interesting in the various classes.

In the Senior Physique we'll see Debe Stewart up against the returning physique of Frances Robinson,Deb Teiho and Lise Burnett.  Tough class as all have great muscles.  There's probably a host of novices which we don't know.

Darryn and Michelle
Open Physique. Julie Harris, in the open u55kg usually comes in a super hard condition and she maybe up against Lucie Thompson.  Mandi Mathison, o55kg, has been thrashing her body since the Wellington comp but she's up against a pretty tough line up of Michelle Heggie and Kaye O'Neil who's just jumped on stage in Wanganui.

What a sight that o55kg is to behold, the battle of muscle and femininity when Michelle and Kaye go head to head and bicep to bicep!  This will be a highlight of the physique class if you love serious muscle like we do.

Novice Figures.  There's been a huge numbers of novice short and talls qualified from last year's Thames and this year's Akl and CNI so no doubt we'll see some of them at Nationals.  Some of the names that come to mind are Akl's Donelle Petelo and Nelson's Karen Kissell.

Karen, Vicky, Linda
In the senior figure 35+ there's the recent winner at CNI Michelle Dixon and Cathy Orevich up against possibly Linda Harrington from Greymouth. Tina Dunlop has got leaner as the year's got on so she could be a surprise packet here.

Sen Fig 45+ A South Islander who'll make an impression is the overall winner Vicky Cattell. Her mass and definition will be a challenge for her line up which will probably include the neat package of Farah Deobhakta from New Plymouth.

Open Short Figure Short sees once again another South Islander Sheryl Patterson (current overall fig champ) against the heavily muscled Wellingtonian Neralee Montague.  Fiona Wallace who was in excellent condition at the Elite and Maria Dunlop could join the lineup too. Is Paula Signal in this class?  she looked pretty sharp in Masterton earlier this year. Tough choice.

          Farah,      Fiona                    Sheryl                    Maureen,    Sesa
A rematch from the Akl show will be the Open Figure Tall between the overall winner from that comp, Sesa Tomuli against the fabulous Maureen O'connell.  But Maureen will also have to contend with the equally conditioned figure of Donna Randall. Possibly in this class will be the glamourous Lisa Bellingham.  What a great line up this will be.

Donna, Monty

Now the Bodyfitness class could be the surprise of the show, who knows who'll turn up??.  With the recent change to the rules that athletes who previous qualified in figure could do bodyfitness without having to qualify, could leave the field open to anybody to show up on the day.

We know Raechelle Chase has booked a spot in the lineup and probably be up against Karen Montague who qualified at CNI.  Kristy Thomson qualified in Bodyfitness short in Wanganui. There were 3 in Christchurch but whether they will come up is unsure.  We haven't seen Raechelle compete since the Thames comp last year so not sure what she'll be like but one thing's for sure Monty will have to rummage through her jewellery box if she wants to match Raechelle bling for bling! should be fun (and expensive) class to watch.

We know this is probably really random but thinking what if Sesa's decided to jump ship and come do the Bodyfitness class? afterall she is eligible with the new rule change.  Then again, one would think she'd probably have needed to go hard with cardio to work off her amazing muscle to do this class. Hmmm, just a thought.

  Now on to the guys.

The Masters 40+ classes have been very popular this year and we expect quite a big turnout in this class.  This was probably Brian McFarlane's class to win but since he's off to the Masters Worlds in Nov, the field is wide open. Probably leading the charge in this class would be the top 3 from CNI and Buck from Wellington.
The Novice Men u70kg, 70-80kg classes, and the 80-90kg traditionally attracted lots of athletes and no doubt it will be the same at the Nationals. Some of the names that pop up in these classes Mateo, Dylan Stephens, Hamish Coulter in the nov o90kg class.

The Classic class will be an interesting one.  Dave Weeks was looking great at CNI and he'll be up against Boris and Chris Nel who recently competed at Wanganui.  Almost forgot hunky Aron Nobel will probably be in this line up too. What a hot class!

But it's the Open Men classes that will have the crowd talking.  Supry Sos and Karl Cook in the u80kg and maybe we'll even see Daniel Hibbs come back to defend his overall Title? Sanjeev Narayan was looking on target to be even sharper for the Nationals in the 80-90kg class.

Don't forget
Alex Simays has also qualified from the Elite show so wonder if we'll see him up against Sanjeev. There's also Jamil from Chch to think about if he competes here.

Classic Top 3, CNI

However the Open o100kg that is of high interest.  We'll see a rematch between Johnson Reihana and Nathan O'Hearn, but how good will it be to see Darryn Onekawa and Nolan Smith who qualified at CNI stand along side these guys?  Nothing better than seeing big men posing down.  Nathan will have to bring his best condition if he's to give Darryn a run for his money as Darryn was in super condition at CNI.  Will he be able to present the same...or dare we say even better???

        Johnson                        Nathan                       Nolan, Darryn

Hopefully we can get more info about who else maybe competing at the Nationals that we can talk about.  In the meantime, hope this has got your juices going and wondering what the outcomes will be!

With so many athletes expected to contest the Nationals lets hope organisers and marshalls are on the ball to get things moving efficiently throughout the day, otherwise it could be a long one for everyone!  good luck to all.
