NABBA Auckland Report

With 75 athletes competing at the NABBA Auckland Champs, it could've been chaos and thoughts of a long show was definitely in athletes and audience imagination. But credit must go to the Peter Hardwick, judges and all the backstage marshalls for being very effient at getting the athletes through super fast. The prejudging started at 1pm and was finished by 4pm while the evening show started at 6pm and was all over at a decent hour of 10pm, well in time for everyone to get supper and enjoy the rest of the night.
There were lots of great bodies on show. First we'd like to congratulate Lisa Bellingham for carrying a little sporting body. Lisa's 3 months pregnant and we wish her and Ed all the best in their futures.  Lisa did a fantastic job MCing the night show and it was great to see her still part of bodybuilding eventhough she's hung up her bikini.

Competition was tough in the Senior Figure class and great to see there is hope for the 30 somethings that there is life and hot bodies when we hit our 40 and 50s. Karen Montague, Lyn Wright, Louise  and the rest of the 7 athletes who made up this line up are truely inspirational. You were all fantastic!

Shape was another big class. Lots of variety in muscle mass and condition...and posing. Sarah Goldsmith won with her nice mix of a great routine and presentation. Fabiany as always looks good and sexy but perhaps a little too lean for this class and placed 2nd. The 3rd placegetter in the green also had a neat total package and we look forward to seeing her and the rest of shape girls in future shows.

The class that everyone was looking forward to was the Open Figure class which perhaps was the best line up we've seen for some time. Johanna Mountford, who looked like she's been working hard and has put on some good size in the off season came in looking very full and lean, was in for a tough challenge this year. She lined up against 2010 National Overall Champ Jody Walford, Teneka Hyndman who comes in lean and Donelle Petelo who's also known for her hard condition. All the girls were evenly matched and the judges had to do many comparisons to decide who eventally was going to take the sought after win. In the end it was Jody and her overall package and hardness that won her first place and eventually the overall title. A nice going away present before she heads off to compete at the NAC Universe in Luxumbourg in June.

Novice Physique Short was also a tough one for the judges. We had Leo with his thick muscles verus Tee who had nice symmetry but not quite the mass to match Leon. Open Physique Tall was also good to watch with Mateo Vaihu showing great condition and symmetry winning over Aron Enoka who stepped into this class because he was a little heavy for athletic. Kristian Bray came in leaner for this show and as the year goes on we're sure we'll be seeing more of him. Mateo continued his winning way to also take Overall title.

Thanks to Peter and NABBA for letting Go Figure share the show pics with our viewers!
