Jamie, Naera and Matt

We do some quickfire questions with LA Muscle Team of Jamie Cameron, Naera Johnson and Matt Clark and their journey to the NABBA Bay of Plenty comp on 18 July.

Was this a group decision to all compete at the same show?
Jamie and I decided to compete in couples last year at the North Harbour show, we encouraged Matt to join us. It took a little persauding, but he loves it..

Was it 'easier' to have the group support during your pre contest prep It's business as usual really, we all eat the same and do our own thing with training.  We occasionally all train together which is a bonus.

Naera;
How do you mentally get yourself to diet year after year????  this must be the 3rd year in a row you've competed.  What's your secret?!

I didn't compete in 2007, which was my first complete year off since I started in 2001.  I enjoy competing so dieting is a part of the journey.  Dieting is not the part that is as hard for me as fitting everything into my schedule especially the cardio.  I have a thyroid condition (which I’ve had since my late teens).  So losing body fat is a battle, when you start out with a slower than normal metabolism.

It's no secret, you have to be true to yourself, do the hard work.  Having the support of clients, friends and my sponsors LA Muscle keeps me focused so as not to let them down. I feel I am accountable to them owe it to them to do my best.

Do you still have that international goal? I would like to win the Universe Title, having achieved 2nd place in 2006.

Jamie;
What brought you on this comeback? thought you were retired the last time we spoke last year :)

Yes I did say that I was retiring last time we spoke, this is not a comeback this is me competing for the fun of it..

Any thoughts of other comps beyond BOP and Waikato
Nationals in couples with Naera, maybe... watch this space

Are you trying to come in with a different look than your last comp?   have you put on much size since you last competed?

Yes this will definitely be a different look from my last competition.  I'm not doing any cardio and have keep to my normal eating.  So the way that I will come into this show is not far off how I look all year round.

I have'nt gained or lost any mass, I've maintained my size by training 3 x wkly.  I don't believe in bulking up to put on size, then killing yourself with cardio to get lean.

Matt;
It must be almost 6 years since you last competed, what was your motivation to get back? when you're surrounded by motivated people who want to compete it brings back the thoughts of I could do that again

How would you like to look on your return to stage? Better than I did last time I competed. I would like to have made some improvements.

Any other comps beyond BOP and Waikato? see how these go first. May look at the Nationals if I believe I can be competitive and am happy with the condition I can come in.
