Shelly says ' Come to Waikato!'

Now that the bar has been raised by the NABBA BOP show, the challenge is on for Shelly Boyes to push the bar even more.  And she says 'Bring it on!'

Although she has no confirmed numbers Shelly said there's been plenty of interest from the region. Teresa Edwards is bringing a team of 7 'Corrie Flexies' and Body Construct are bring similar numbers.  No doubt those who competed at BOP will also do Waikato, including the newly discovered Men's Overall Winner Dan Amos.

Jamie Cameron and Naera Johnson will be guest posing at the evening show. They'll be out to make amends for their routine at BOP as there was technical issues with their disc.  From what we saw of the routine, it looks pretty funky and who knew Jamie was such a groover...and Naera can shake her booty too!

She said ' if you thought BOP had good prizes, you wait to see what I have at Waikato for athletes.' 'They'll need a wheelbarrow to carry it away' she said cheekily.  One thing's for certain, Shelly will present her usual military style organisation which will have athletes going through their classes quicksmart...or else!

We spotted the hard body of Rick Ujfalussy training at the Environment Gym and had to ask him if he was competing soon, and yes he was!  Rick's aiming for the NABBA Waikato but is undecided whether he'll compete in physique or athletic at this stage. Rick's from canada and this will be the 12th show he's competed in since 1996 but this will be the first in NZ for him. We look forward to welcoming him to the kiwi way!

In other news, looks like Big Lisa aka Lisa Bellingham will once again be trophy girl as we can't coax her into competing just yet.  However, she did say she does have a marathon of comps coming up but hasn't confirmed which one she's starting with.  Watch this space!

NABBA WAIKATO BODY BUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS, Saturday 25 July 2009

"YEP! We're back at Clarence Street Theatre for the 2009 NABBA Waikato Bodybuilding Champs on Saturday 25 July 2009" Shelly Boyes, the ever energetic contest organiser of the Waikato show said.  " The only regional body building and fitness event in the Waikato this year and it's standing room ONLY! "

2009 MR. & MS. WAIKATO is the 'Best Show In Town'; slickly organised and high energy - ALL the athletes are going to think it's Christmas with the products and services being presented to them all from our various, very generous sponsors and supporters.

"Let's just say that the new day-job I have hasn't been kind to my usual time management style, but in saying this the standard set and the consistency of having the Waikato show in the same-place-same-time has been helpful.  And YES!  I can confirm that we're back at Clarence Street Theatre in Hamilton (following some slick negotiating) and have been able to keep the Waikato show there for the next three years at least.

"The athletes are my best advertisers, and I'm a big believer in you only being as good as your last game.  Waikato 2008 was my last game with 55+ athletes - I wondered if I was going to have enough prizes for everyone.  Presently, I'm not sure how many athletes are coming - but Peter Hardwick, NABBA Auckland, said to me earlier this year, that just quietly, Waikato looks like it's going to be another biggie.  The athletes are going to think it's Christmas with the products and services being presented to them this year all from our various, very generous sponsors and supporters.  I think each and every competitor is going to have a workout just to haul their goodie bags off-stage.  I kid you not!

LA Muscle Team of Jamie, Naera and Matt

"You're going to have to check out national and international champion guest performers: URBAN BEAT and LA Muscle duo: Jamie Cameron - Nando's Face of Body Building & former Mr. New Zealand, and Naera Johnson, 2008 NABBA Ms. World Physique & 2006 Ms. New Zealand Physique.  This is quite a coup to get all these top-class performers in one place, at the same time, and on the same stage.

"I've known Jamie Cameron and Naera Johnson for years and these are the two performers we know about - and LA Muscle has been a tremendous sponsor and supporter of NABBA events, especially any event I've run in Bay of Plenty and Waikato over the previous 10 years.  Urban Beat, however, is something else.  They're Aotearoa's longest running Hip-Hop Dance Company, leading the way for fellow dancers and performers in NZ with it's professionalism and originality.  Having performed with the likes of Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes and the Black Eyed Peas, and appearing on numerous TV spots such as So You Think You Can Dance and NZ's Next Top Model, Urban Beat maintains its tradition of excellence through Hip-Hop Dance.

"Checkout the sponsor's stands: Fusion Body Building - who had so much fun last year - they're back!; and Supplement Depot, Te Rapa, for entry into the Gaspari product and travel promotions.  This one looks interesting - a fantastic way of the audience becoming actively involved in product giveaways and possible travel to Las Vegas to train with Rich Gaspari at Gold's Gym and receiving VIP treatment at the Mr Olympia event this September.  I'm working on this one with Myer Rose, Account Manager for Nutrition Systems, and we'll see what happens at the Waikatos.

"Athletes and patrons can bring their show tickets into Nando's Hamilton on show day and they will give you a 15% discount off any Nando's purchase.  Nando's Hamilton will remain open until midnight on show day especially for NABBA only.  This is a fantastic deal, and I can thank Jamie Cameron, LA Muscle, for helping me with this one, together with the 'other' after-show venue we getting lined-up - more about that at the Waikatos.

"About the athletes?  Seeing is believing!  You have to see why the Waikato men's classes are now amongst the best in New Zealand - will Morrinsville's 2008 Mr. New Zealand Physique, Nathan O'Hearn, be back to claim his third overall Waikato title?  Who else is going to emerge from the dairy farms and forests of Waikato onto my stage in Hamilton for top honours?

"Check out the women's classes and see why Waikato is consistent national figure and shape champions: will Mishell Stowe, Hamilton, stake a claim for Ms. Waikato Figure?  Sheta Hall, Hamilton's own acclaimed international figure thinks so!  And just who is Teresa Edwards bringing over from Thames and the Coromandel to shake up the Shape, Figure and Physique classes.  She's confirmed to be bringing seven athletes.

"See and meet Hamilton's Sheta Hall, NZ Fitness Magazine Personal Trainer of the Month (Oct-Nov 2008) and acclaimed international Figure athlete for training and expert competition preparation tips - and how to get into the sport.  Alternatively, you can catch her on her website: http://www.evolveyourself.co.nz/.

"Which Waikato gym will knockout a Teresa Edwards-led (2006-2008 Ms. New Zealand Shape) Thames Health & Fitness team for the FarmTech Services Pukekohe Top Waikato Gym in 2009?  Could Chris Nell's Body Construct from Hamilton do the job?

"My partner, Garth Beattie, has made the Top Waikato Gym trophy himself with a little help from Franklin Metalfolders and FarmTech Services Pukekohe.  Let's just say it's uniquely 'Waikato' and would make any red-blooded Mooloo proud!

"See Waikato's BEST out muscle the rest for the premier titles of 2009 MR. & MS. WAIKATO!

"Catch you all at the 2009 NABBA Waikato Body Building Championships at Clarence Street Theatre, cnr Clarence & Tristram Streets, Hamilton, Saturday 25 July.  Athlete Information: Check In 10:00am - 11:00am; Briefing 11:30am.  Judging starts at 1:00pm - $15; Evening Finals start promptly at 6:30pm - $25.  Tickets available at all Ticketdirect Waikato outlets - Door Sales Available on the day.
