Jody Walford Training Video!

To succeed in anything, you need a little bit of obsession. In bodybuilding, I like to call it the crazy gene.  With every high level athlete that I've had the chance to interview they all have that extra something.

Sure they have the physiques as proof of their hardwork but to really know their ambition you have to look in their eyes.

I didn't have to look long into Jody's eyes to see just how focused she is and how she easily fits into the high achievers club.
Here's an example of her gene in action.  There's a set of stairs in Wanganui called the Durie Elevator which leads up to the Wanganui Tower.  There are 191 steps in the Elevator. Tower is 33.5m high and has 176 steps.

For the normal person, lunging/walking the elevator stairs and a walk afterwards would be enough of a challenging cardio workout.

But not for Jody.  She lunges up the stairs and then lunges up the tower and then runs down the hill the long way. But she doesn't do this just once. But twice.

And not just once a week but four times a week!!!!

In a typical day, Jody's gets up at 4.30am to do her 1hr cardio. But that's not all. After cardio, she'll hop in the car to be at the gym by 5.30am.

That sounds normal right? Wrong again. Although Jody lives and works in Marton, she drives 30min each morning to Wanganui to train at Club Fitness. 30mins is probably quite a short distance in the city, but 30min driving in the country is a long way!

Continuing with her day. Jody's home by 8am for work (if on morning shift), and she'll do another 60-90 mins cardio at night. This is 5 days with 6th day cardio only.

As the contest approaches she'll some days do 2 weight sessions (ie one in afternoon) and add cardio after that.

This shows once again Jody's absolute dedication to achieving a finely tuned figure.

Its no wonder then with her desire that Jody has come a long way in a short time.  She began her contest career in 2008 where she won the NABBA open figure short (1st year competing).

In 2010 she won the NABBA Ms Hawke's bay figure, Ms Manawatu figure, 1st International figure and overall NABBA Figure at Nationals. And also took out the Overall INBA Ms Sth Pacific figure.

This year she has set her sights on the NAC Worlds in Luxumborg in June. Before that she will compete at the NABBA Auckland Champs on 21 May.

Right by her side through the whole process is her supportive hubby Brett. Jody says 'Brett is my superman! Is cardio buddy, training partner, motivator when I feel lousy. Top tanner and my posing practice judge! Wouldn't have got this far without him xx'

Thank you Jody for letting me in on your training session and showing me, and Go Figure viewers, how much dedication and 'crazy' it takes to reach the highest level of competition.  Unfortunately none of that crazy has rubbed off on me and I'm still in bed at 4.30am :)

Watch the video to see Jody explain her diet, training, baking....and we go up the Wanganui Tower!
