Hey peeps,

I have to start by saying a HUGE thank you for all the lovely comments after our announcement! It’s so lovely to know we have all this support behind us and I absolutely love having the chance to share this with you!

This time I wanted to fill you guys in on my journey so far and unfortunately I have to say the first trimester wasn’t so fun. I had constant nausea and I’d never felt so tired in my life, not even contest dieting and that’s saying something! So because of the exhaustion I haven’t been able to train or do cardio and I discovered pretty quickly that I wasn’t able to keep any food down that wasn’t full of carbs and fat lol!

I’m always one to be totally straight up, so I have to be honest and say that I hadn’t been enjoying pregnancy till the last couple of weeks. I’ve struggled with my lack of energy to be in the gym, my HUGE appetite for all things greasy and as I’m sure it would for most women, the weight gain has really done my head in. However, I realise how incredibly blessed Darryn and I are to be pregnant and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Now here we are, I’m 18 weeks and the nausea has gone for the most part and I’m finally able to keep down healthy food, so I’m feeling much better in general. I’ve also got back into doing cardio and training which is helping with my energy levels. I’ve certainly learnt a lot in the last four months and it’s made me view the pregnancy journey quite differently to what I imagined it would be.

I think it’s incredibly important to remember that everyone’s experience of pregnancy is different and no suggestion of how it was for someone else or how it ‘should’ be for you is going to be how it plays out. I always thought that I would keep up the healthy eating throughout and I would train like I always had, so it was a real wake call for me when I realised that after traveling all day with my job.

Jamie's 18 week bump
I’m a sales rep covering a territory from Wellington right up to Wanganui and across to Napier. I could barely move to get out of my car and inside, let alone get my butt to the gym. It was also a crazy thought for me that all of a sudden my body wanted me eating the crap food I’ve avoided for years and wouldn’t allow me to keep down the food I was so use to.

I’ve read so many articles written by fitness professionals about how women are WRONG for giving into their food cravings and for stopping their exercise and once upon a time I would’ve agreed with them. Unfortunately this hasn’t been my experience and I’ve had to throw out all the things I’ve always known and learn to listen to what my body was telling me...it needed rest and it needed different nutrients to what I was use to.

I’m certainly not saying that the articles I’ve read are wrong, but what we need to remember is that everyone’s experience of pregnancy is unique and that as much as we would like to think that it will be life as normal when pregnancy comes along, that’s not always the case. It’s been a great comfort to me to be able to talk with other pregnant women going through the same experience as me, I’ve realised that it’s not just that I’m weird lol!!!

Now that I’m feeling better, I’m absolutely loving being pregnant and I love talking about it...I’m pretty sure all my customers wish I would shut up! I had the chance to meet my gorgeous new nephew when he arrived on the 6th of July and meeting him and seeing all my other nieces and nephews (seven in total) made me even more excited about our wee bub and we can’t wait for him or her to arrive.

I thought I would share a picture with you guys this time, so here is a pic of my bump at 18 weeks.
