30 Dec Update:
Congrats to Jamie and Darryn on the arrival of their baby girl Aaliyah on 16 December 2012! Here is pic of Jamie and Aaliyah at 2 days old.

Hey guys,

So it’s been ages since I wrote and to be honest life has been pretty boring and I haven’t had a lot to share with you, but I figure now that I’m so close to my due date I should give you an update.

As of tomorrow I am 38 weeks, so only two weeks until my due date.  I’m seeing my midwife weekly now and everything is cruising along nicely, although I’m a little worried that maybe our little one is a bit too comfortable in there and might decide to appear late...fingers crossed that doesn’t happen!!!  I’ve just started my maternity leave as of this week and I’m still finding myself with a busy schedule, I seem to find it impossible to slow down.

The third trimester has definitely been my most enjoyable because I haven’t been sick like I was in the first two trimesters.  With my diet I’ve been able to eat well, just keeping with small meals as I find it really difficult to fit much in anymore.  I have to be honest and say that for a while there were days where I would only eat 2 or 3 times due to feeling so full, but I found my blood sugars dropping and myself getting dizzy, so I’ve had to ensure I stick to small frequent meals to combat that.  Silly thing to do and I know better, but it’s not a mistake I’ll ever make again.  I’ve also been making sure I’ve been drinking plenty of water as I feel so dehydrated all the time.

With training I’ve definitely had to ease off and have just been sticking to walking the last few weeks.  I don’t stray too far from home on my walks anymore just in case baby decides to make an early appearance (wishful thinking), so I just head down to a nearby soccer field and do laps and then walk home.

Living in Wellington we live on the side of a hill, so there is no escaping a little bit of hill work, but I seem to still be managing it.  I’m also doing a few different exercises at home, but to be honest it’s nothing to do with exercising and everything to do with trying to get the baby into the right position for birth.  So I do a little circuit of squats, pelvic tilts and lunges.

So, how am I feeling about becoming a first time Mum...well I’ve been super prepared, buying everything we need over the last few months and was really lucky to have my beautiful sister throw me the most amazing high tea baby shower two weeks ago, where I was given so many great gifts, so I feel totally prepared in terms of that.

We are sure the baby will be posing from an early age :)

In terms of our actual baby, I certainly have a few nerves about what to expect and how I’m going to cope with the lack of sleep, the breastfeeding etc, but I’m so incredibly excited about seeing our wee one for the first time.  I can’t wait to bring bubs home to the nursery we’ve set up and watch all those firsts occur, like the first smile and the first giggle:)  It’s quite a surreal and overwhelming feeling knowing that very soon, the life I’ve been carrying inside me for the past 9 months, will be here with us and will need so much love and attention...no more time to be selfish and focus on ourselves!

But on that selfish point, I’m definitely ready to get back in the gym and get back to my pre-pregnancy body.  I’ve already contacted my gym, Les Mills Extreme, to find out when I’m able to leave baby in the nursery there.  We are really lucky as they have qualified early childhood educators that look after the children, so I feel completely happy with leaving baby there while I work out and they take newborns from 6 weeks old.

Jamie can't wait to be back in her bikini

I’m already thinking ahead about which show I’d like to make my Pro Debut at, but first I want to focus on getting back to where I was and then making some big improvements, so when I do hit that Pro stage I know I look like I deserve to be there.  It’s going to be the most amazing feeling getting on stage knowing I have a little one to make proud!

Anyway, that’s where I’m at, but I’ll be sure to update you all when baby arrives.  Until then have an amazing December, keep training hard and start setting those goals for 2013, it’s not far away!!!

Jamie Onekawa xx
