On September 24 September 2005, Eleanor Stewart will finally realise her dream of competing on the international stage. After 10 years of training and competing at regional and Australasian level, Elly will at last mix it with the big girls at the IFBB Women's World Champs in Spain where she'll compete in the u52kg class.
Despite her nerves, Elly is feeling great and more motivated than ever. "If I didn't really want this, I wouldn't be going as far and training as hard as I am" she said. She is thriving on the challenge of looking better than she's ever been. "At every contest I always try to look different.
At last year's Nationals (in which she won the u52kg open class) I was ripped but I want
to improve on that" Elly adds. "This year I've grown a little but I still want to get u52kg
but still look feminine".
To help her put the final 'spit and polish' to her stage presentation, Elly has called on the
services of the dynamic duo of Lynn Wright and Tony Ligaliga at the Environment gym. "They're great teachers" Elly said. "They've helped me be more feminine with my posing and now I feel I'm holding myself better and be more professional in my posing"
Contest Training
At present Elly does 4 exercises per body part, 4 sets, 12-15 reps.
However at around 8 weeks from contest she'll increase her reps and do lighter weight. She will also incorporate an extra hour of cardio to her already high cardio load at the end of the day to decrease her weight from 59 to 52kg.
Her current training split as follows:
Mon: Back + calves
Tues: Shoulders + biceps
Wed: Legs
Thurs: Chest + Triceps
Fri: Legs
Sat:1.5 hr walk in a.m + Back
Sun: Rest
Although Elly is on a diet, she says she doesn't let that stop her from having a social life.
"Alot of people think just because they're competing, they have to stay home because they can't eat out. When I go out, I just ask them to cook food the way I want. Like having salad but without sauces or just the chicken without skin and generally they're pretty good about it. It beats staying home and feeling miserable and probably make you want to have more treats. You just have to be disciplined" Elly said.
Her discipline and focus has been an inspiration for many girls who see her around the gym (Les Mills Akl) and look up to Elly as their role model. "Alot of the young girls recognise me from being on Go Figure site and they come up to me and ask for advice. I don't mind at all as it keeps me motivated to keep going and I enjoy helping
anyone out too"
