RIP Big Kiwi Justin Rys

Bodybuilder Justin passed away on 4 June 2015 after a long illness associated with his heart.

He will be remembered for his passion for training and bodybuilding, and his big heart to teach others the pitfalls of his past.

Rest in Peace and we hope you can now breathe easy and enjoy many workouts without pain.

25 Sept 2010
Justin Rys held a training court
at the Bay BodyFit gym in between the prejudging and night show of the ProFormance CNI.

In front of many enthusiastic weight trainers he powered through an arms workout answering questions in between sets.

Justin and Lisa Justin comfy in front of camera and audience
In his typical jovial and larriken style, he answered questions honestly and straight up...as only Justin can.  He did 2 exercises for triceps and two for biceps.  He wasted no time in getting into the heavier end of the weight scale and pumped out 6-7 explosive reps during his 4 sets. Justin has a wee heart problem and it shows in his training, he gets quite out of breath between sets but there's no other way he'd rather train...and perhaps live. Hard out!

He later guest posed at the show revealing a very mean muscular physique as you can see.  More on Justin soon.

Thanks Justin for getting in shape for us!

8. When did you last compete?
I Last competed in 2004 but I did a guest pose at the Mr Fiji last year, I have missed being on stage  but it has been more a case of finding places I can travel to as a pro and compete more than not wanting to compete.

 9. You spent some time inside, what did you learn about yourself while you were there and how did you appy it to when you wre released?
I really took in with me all the mental aspects I had learnt in bodybuilding like never giving up, constantly staying strong mentally, working around different situations, using what you have in any situation. While inside I used my time wisely and completed business and marketing degrees as well as a diploma in drug and alcohol addiction studies.

10. When did you start preparing for the ProFormance CNI?
I started preparing about 8 weeks out

  11. Have you got contest plans after your guest posing?

I have thought about doing the pro show in Dubai later this
year but have not confirmed yet. This may be my last time on stage but on the other hand may be a new beginning. I will see how it
feels and go from there.
12. What does your precontest training regime look like?
My on season training is exactly the same as my off season apart from a little bit more cardio and slightly cleaner diet. I usually have a 3 day on 1 day off split and train one body part a
day so each body part gets trained once a week.

13. Contest diet
Meal 1: oatmeal, banana, protein drink
Meal 2: Tuna
Meal 3: Chicken
Meal 4: Chicken
Meal 5: Protein drink
Meal 6: chicken, noodles (or other carbs)

Meal 9: as above
Meal 10: (lamb, beef, pork)

14.  What kind of physique will you be revealing to us at the ProFormance CNI?
I will be revealing a hard vascular body along the lines of what Branch Warren looks like on stage. I am currently 125kg and will stay around this weight for the show.

15. Have you had a role model - perhaps a physique - you've modelled your own physique on?
Dorian Yates has been my role model, his training ethic and never giving in even when tearing both biceps before a show.  I have based my training around his and try to be as intense as his
workouts always were. I also like his grainy hard look of his body when competing which I have tried to achieve in my own.

16.  What is your ultimate goal in bodybuilding?
My ultimate goal in bodybuilding is to get a top 3 place at a top American show like the Ironman or Arnold Classic and qualify for the Mr Olympia contest.

What are you looking forward to most about the Proformance CNI?
I am really looking forward to coming up to the CNI and seeing everyone at the show !! It's all for a good cause for breast cancer so make sure you come along and support the show.
