HOT firefighter Chris Lind of Christchurch is our New New Year's Hunk. Chris won the Overall Novice Men's Athletic Class at the NABBA Nationals in 06. We may see his return to competition this year, and we look forward to seeing him burning up the stage again!
Our hot hunk of the moment is 23 year old Sam Mohamad of Auckland. Sam was on a few hunks who competed at the NABBA North Harbour show where ced 2nd in the Open class.
Sam is studying and trains at Massey Uni gym. As you can see, we couldn't quite decide which shot showed him best so put we put in a few for your perousal. We're sure you don't mind!
Oh yeah, there's nothing seeing big guys heaving and pushing super heavy weights around. Seeing the strain of the huge weights on their backs and hearing the many weights clanging on the barbell as they squat or deadlifted...aahh I was in iron heaven as the big boys came out to play on the last day of the Commonwealth Powerlifting Champs.
The last day was reserved for the heavyweights, that is for guys who are over 100 to 150kg class. I don't think they could've fitted in on previous days with other athletes anyway as these guys need lots of room!!!
In particular I was following Reuben Simanu and Lance Stewart. Reuben, who lives in Whakatane, is quite a legend in powerlifting circles and is renowed for his size and strength. Standing at 6'2" and weighing in at 155.70kg Reuben does look very daunting but really he's a big softy (but ssshhh don't tell him I said that!).
Lance, who competes in the Masters 1 class (40-49 age group), competed a day earlier also presents quite a sizeable figure himself. At around 5'10" Lance weighs in at 152.5kg and has the biggest thighs I've seen for a long time!! and I've seen a few recently at these champs!!
Lance is a seasoned powerlifting competitor and has been competing off an on for over 10 years - hence how he got his thighs and strength no doubt. He's won numerous regional and national titles but probably his biggest claim to fame is being Ali G's coach!! and I'm sure he'll agree.
Sanjeev was another kiwi hunk who ventured to the Musclemania Worlds in Los Angeles recenlty. And he made an awesome impression, placing 3rd in the Light Heavyweight class in a line up of 11.
We don't know too much about Sanjeev as he seems a mysterious hunk but we know he has competed mainly overseas in Musclemania comps, so we think he should compete in NZ again soon!
