Lisa's Happy Snaps
Before we get going on what happened during the show I just want to do a little bit of housekeeping. I don't do alot generally so this will be quick but I just need say something on the behalf of the athletes.

I thought the organisers of the Nationals were very ambitious. In a good way, you know they wanted to provide a big venue befitting a Nationals and having proper sponsors' tables where they can sit down in a relaxed atmosphere with food and drinks.

Who better to wile the hours with than a nice hunk.

But as it turned out most of the spectators were on the balcony while the sponsors tables were half filled at ground level.  As the people were scattered between the 2 floors, we didn't get the spirit of the Nationals and not sure if the athletes felt the atmosphere and so we didn't hear the crowd cheering or making much noise.
The other ambition was the starting times of the prejudging and finals. I totally get the early starting times ie 9am and 4pm so that athletes and audience can get away early to enjoy hopefully an early night.  But I think they were just thinking too ahead and perhaps didn't think about all the logistics of how the day would go.  As it turns out the morning show didn't start till 10am and evening show till 5pm.
While the show was getting organised during that hour, the audience were mostly left to stand outside and the athletes were just waiting, lying down and some even had a picnic. So in future, all the athletes (and spectators) ask is that all the little steps are seen to before the day of the show.

Once the show got going, the morning show went pretty fast and all credit must go to Head Marshall Mark Delew and his team of marshalls and tanners who were super organised backstage.  Same goes for the evening show. Nice job backstage team.

The other thing I thought that could be handled abit better was how the top 5 is announced.  At the evening show, before even the athletes got backstage they were told that a list was going to be put up backstage of the top 5 in each class and if your name wasn't on the list then you don't need to tan up or come back for the night show.  That's kind of icky and doesn't give much respect to the athletes.

Sure, all athletes can't do all their routines but imagine all the people that have come to see their friends at the night show but now they can't because they're not in top 5. It would be nice for the friends to see something.  Even if they come out on stage at the start of the night show in their class and do some compulsories or something as the group.  Just a thought for the future.

That's all!  Thanks to Brian McFarlane and NZFBB for letting me do my thang.

Here are some happy snaps from the show.  Sorry didn't get any of the open guys backstage, I was abit scared of them as they seem so focused and I didn't want to annoy them too much! Will have a proper report of the show and other pics up in next couple of days.
