Karyn Kelly, West Coast Muscle

In this update we catch up with the chameleon figure of Karyn Kelly of Greymouth.  Karyn has been competing for 4 years and regularly competes in both figure and physique classes changing her body between these classes.

More than a competitor, Karyn is the ultimate definition of a wonder woman and supermum. She is super motivated and loves to keep busy! Coupled with her work as clinical nurse, Karyn's also working towards getting her Masters while managing her family life as well.

*I must admit to being 39 years old, married to the farmer (Shane). We have two lovely children, Alana is 13 and Lachlan is 9.  They are both little athletes themselves and keep me busy with coaching and transporting (we live 30 minutes from town). I am a Registered nurse working at Grey Base Hospital as a clinical nurse specialist in cardiology, occupational health as well as
working with new graduate nurses...I like to be busy!! I am also studying and working towards a masters in clinical nursing.

Ra's WNBF Triumph

Wellingtonian Ra Paka has had an exhausting 3 weeks of competitions but with that has come great rewards. Since winning the Overall Physique at the NABBA Wellington and NZFBB North Island Champs, Ra has gone on to beat the Australians at the WNBF Champs (World Natural Bodybuilding Champs) and took out their overall title too!
But that's not all! Ra also competed in her 4th show, at the NZFBB Nationals in Wellington on 18 October where she won the o55kg Open Physique class.  A Wonder Woman feat indeed.  If that isn't exhausting enough, Ra still has her big mission to complete when she goes to New York in a few weeks time.

So how is she coping with all these competitions and why did she compete in the WNBF?

Johanna Mountfort

Johanna Mountfort placed 2nd in the Novice Figure Short class at the NZFBB Akl Champs in June and now she's all revved up to hit the stage again at the NZFBB Nationals in Wellington.  Looking lean, Johanna (30) looks like she's ready to just put on a coat of tan and step on stage today! Thanks to her background in ballet and naturally athletic genes Johanna's transition to bodybuilding seems effortless but according to Johanna there was still plenty of hardwork especially when organising her family duties as well.

What is even more surprising about Johanna's awesome figure is that she competed in the Akl Champs only just 9 months after her 2nd child was born! Johanna also has a three year old daughter.

So lets find out more about this energetic PT (at Just Workout Forrest Hill) and how she copes with her active lifestyle admist preparing for the Nationals.

* was the June comp your first? and why did you want to compete in that?
NZFBB Auckland Champs in June 2008 was my first comp. I had actually hoped to compete for the first time in 2007, but when discovering I was pregnant for the 2nd time, I reluctantly put my aspirations on hold. In 2008, someone who I respect (and was experienced in Bodybuilding) encouraged me to compete and promised to help me for my first one, so I agreed.

Ali G Wins in USA!
Ali competed at the INBA Team USA comp in Los Angeles on 10 October.  She did the Ms Physique Masters and Ms Physique Open (ms physique is the same criterior as our figure classes), and placed 1st in both classes.  They didnt have an overall.

The contest was a qualifier for the USA team for Natural Olympia and Ali competed with the Americans as she was the only international competitor there.  She said it was a great event and everyone was friendly.

The unique aspect to the contest was that every competitor was drug tested and each athlete paid for their own testing as part of the entry fee.

Jax Jarrett's Anaheim Attack

Jacqui Jarrett recently battled it out with some of America's best Pro Figures at her 2nd Pro Figure comp, the Anaheim Tournament of Champions on Saturday 20 September in Los Angeles.
There were 17 girls in Jacqui's line up and Jacqui looked more rounded and softer for this comp, but still with great condition.  We've been told that Jacqui has pretty much travelled and competed without too much support, so well done Jacqui for having the get up and go to do it yourself.

Enjoy the pics from our Happy Snappers!
