To succeed in anything, you need a little bit of obsession. In bodybuilding, I like to call it the crazy gene.  With every high level athlete that I've had the chance to interview they all have that extra something. 

Sure they have the physiques as proof of their hardwork but to really know their ambition you have to look in their eyes.

6 May update:  Since the article below, Lesley has had a great run on the NZ bodybuilding scene.  She won the NABBA Manawatu Open and Overall Physique on 6 April.  Then on 30 April she won the NABBA/WFF Overall Ms Athletic and has been selected to keep at the WFF Worlds in Australia on 18 June.

4 April: Since English figure athlete Lesley Rothera arrived in New Zealand in March 2010, she has been busy plunging herself into the Australasian competition scene.  

Lesley had been competing and training in the UK for the past 5 years. We first saw Lesley's lean condition compete in 2010 in NZ at the Australasian qualifier in October where she won her Novice Figure class.  From there she went on to compete at the Australasians in Sydney.

Lucie Thompson has been a familiar physique in NZ bodybuilding for a few years competing in the Open physique class.  However, she was lured back to her Australian home last year so we won't see Lucie and her infamous pout in NZ for a while.

However, we certainly haven't forgotten Lucie. She's still busy training but using her muscles in a more functional form competing in Strongman and Powerlifting competitions.  We asked how she got into it and if we'll see her back on stage any time soon!
