Hard to believe but our baby bodybuilders
Alfie and Amy Jo Ligaliga are beefy 1 year olds and celebrated with a party on 14 Dec.

Well actually Alfie's the beefy one, thankfully!, he's walking round and even doing chins - just like his dad.  While Amy Jo's still the delicate flower and prefers to be held or carted around on her bike.

Thought I'd fill you in on my mind - muscle connection and how its all going. For the past couple of weeks I've been very diligent and committing to listening to my nightly hypno recordings that Grant Patterson (hypnotherapist) made for me to help me relax.

Plus, I'd also had another session with Grant where he worked more on imagery and maximising that sensation to help me see how I want to look through all my hard work in the gym.
above: me nodding off listening to Grant's hyp recording

With the help of his soothing tones in my ear as I drop off to sleep, I've been having a much deeper sleep and feel alot more energised in the mornings and awake these days at 6.30am! or is that because the light streams in to my room at that time?

Free Hypnotherapy download below. Hard to explain what listening to a hypno recording is like, so I asked Grant to make me up one to put on site so that you can get relaxing too in the comfort of your own bed. Its going to feel abit weird at first having someone else whispering in your ear as you try and sleep but bear with it for a few nights.  Ideally you should wear headphones as this heightens the effect of the therapy. Listening to his relaxation recording will help you feel more relaxed, get a better night's sleep and you never know - might even have more energy in the gym!

Have you ever wondered when you could put into practice all those chin ups you do in the gym? well I have the answer.....rock climbing!  I recently gave indoor rock climbing a go and what a challenging workout, both physically and mentally, it was too.

Physically rock climbing burns fat while strengthening muscles if you're doing it at a reasonable pace. Have you seen a fat rock climber??!!  The ones who do this as their main sport are lean mean muscle machines.

Mentally, rock climbing presents people with the opportunity to exercise their ability to focus on a single task ie to reach the top. Climbers also get to confront their fears - the fear of heights, the fear of falling, the fear of failure.

Ultimately rock climbing can be a metaphor for life and our struggle to reach the top (is that too deep and meaningful?!) but its also great fun and you get a self confidence boost along the way.

I hadn't rock climbed before so I was little nervous but excited about challenging myself in a different area of sport and fitness. I wasn't sure what to expect of 'the wall' at Akl Uni and how high it was going to be but when I saw it was 'only' 10metres high I thought it was doable and I wasn't going to get too freaked out when I get up to the top.

As you know, I'm all enthused to  train hard. To get there I've got a new training regime in place, bumped up my calorie intake, taking supplements to assist with my growth and recovery and get regular Bowen Therapy to keep my muscles, joints and nerves optimally healthy too.

But perhaps the biggest factor which I haven't worked on that could be a big influence in my training has been my mind. Its been said many times in sport - and in life - that difference between achieving success or not is in the top 2 inches of your head.

Now that I feel motivated, I thought I'd make the most of my new found focus to see if I could transfer that to achieve greater success in the gym so for the next couple of weeks (and perhaps beyond). I'm going to give hypnotherapy a go to enhance my mind/muscle connection into a huge big port so that my muscles are subject to growth from every possible synapse.

My immediate training goal is to put on muscle mass. To get there I have to lift heavy but ironically sometimes I am afraid of big weights.  I'm sure I'm not the only one!  especially when it comes to squatting or benching heavy.
Not sure why I'm cautious to go heavy with those particular exercises so one of the things I'm going to work on through hypnotherapy is for me to believe I can lift or squat big. Other elements I'd like to achieve through hypnotherapy would be to go beyond my last rep eventhough I'm fatigued and perhaps be able to summon up more energy so that I can do more - whether it be in reps or in kilograms.
